Instructor Christine Comito
Christine comes to Orcas Island from Southern California. Upon completing her Yoga Mittra Vinyasa Teacher Training, in March 2012, one of the first classes she regularly taught was SUP Yoga. She received her training at the beautiful Yoga Loft studio, in Manhattan Beach, where your practice is enhanced by the energy of the Pacific Ocean. As you stand on your mat, your view of the sea is expansive. She now teaches four classes a week at Orcas Mandala in downtown Eastsound.
From the beginning, Christine was always drawn to the inner currents of the body and relationship of the fluid body to movement. With the encouragement of her teacher, Shelley Williams, a master yoga teacher a graceful surfer and creative dancer, she was led to Michelle Gierst, a now internationally known SUP Yoga ambassador. She and Michelle worked together to create fluid sequences that were appropriate for floating yoga.
The natural movement of the water and the physical body come together in her classes on land and on water. Her SUP Yoga classes synchronize elements of Vinyasa flow yoga with the experience of awareness and balance. Students will discover how yoga can bring a sense of calm to the mind while encouraging a greater connection to energy sources in nature.
The practice of Yoga encourages us to find the union. When practiced on the water, the connection to nature offers a great balance of playfulness and peace.
